Schanie Blooma
I thought we should look at pretty flowers today since it has been so rainy and cold. And these will make us all feel just a little bit better.
Ahhh I am feeling better already. I think I must have that disorder where if you don’t get enough sun you get depressed. It is called SAD: Seasonal Affect Disorder.
Actually I have the flower version which is called FAD: Flower Affect Disorder. I get it every fall when there are no flowers in my garden and spring seems so far away and it makes me buy fake flower arrangements.
It is sights like this that start the FAD symptoms. If you remember a few weeks ago this field was blooming with purple flowers and I nearly died getting those photo. After the first frost I start buying orchids and grocery store cut flowers and then I give up and buy the fake ones. Out at the Faux Farm I have lots of silk flower arrangements since I am not there enough keep live plants. One day the little amish girl next door came by to visit. She is 4 and still only speaks Pennsylvania Dutch. She saw all the faux flowers and said “schanie blooma” and pointed and then looked at me to see if I understood. Then she repeated it again “schanie blooma” and pointed. So, I repeated after her and she smiled and clapped. She was thrilled to me teaching me Pennsylvania Dutch. I am sure that I have spelled it incorrectly but then Pennsylvania Dutch is more of a spoken language and than a written one. I took a guess, so it is a faux spelling! But I sure like saying the words “schanie blooma”. It will be my winter mantra and perhaps help me with my disorder.
