That’s a Smokin Boat You Got There!
No really, your boat is really smokin!
We were all sitting in the house waiting for Uncle D to come over in his boat to take us all for a ride. All of a sudden Bob says – “Hey I think D’s boat is on fire – look at all that smoke coming out of his engine!” Holy smoke – there were plumes of smoke trailing behind them. I was the closest to the door and started to run down the dock. (That is one long dock and I had no shoes on and some of the nail heads were poking up a little so I had to yelp every couple of feet when I stepped on one- but I kept going – I am so there in an emergency!) I finally got to the end of the dock and they are about 40 feet away. Two other boats have come to the rescue - one has a fire extinguisher and gets close enough to hand it off to D. He sprays it onto the engine. He then gives my Dad an oar to start paddling but first he whacks him in the head with it as passes it to him. Now D is standing there with the discharged extinguisher and my Dad is standing there with one hand on the oar and the other hand rubbing his head. Smoke is still billowing out of the engine. They are not moving – it’s like they are in a trance. The second boat comes up and tosses them a line and they miss it, he reels it in and gives it another toss. MISS! Hello – ship of fools – people are trying to save you – wake up and help out a bit. Finally, my Dad grabs the line and they are towed to our dock. As they pull up I go to get little D off the boat and he says ” No- I am staying on this boat”. I sternly reply “Hey, you’re not the captain – now jump to me and get off the boat”. He gives me a dirty look and says “FINE”. Sean tries to get my Dad off and as he has one leg on the boat and one on the dock, the boat starts to drift away from the dock. OOps, someone forgot to tie down the boat. My dad yells out ” Hey, you’re gonna split my personality here.” Sean is a big guy, he just picks up my dad, much the same way I picked up little D and places my Dad on the dock. Another life saved! What an exciting morning!
So, I guess this means we aren’t going for that boat ride are we?
