One Hungry Dog
This is our Joey. We love Joey. Joey never does anything very bad. Really, he doesn’t chew on things or make messes. We just didn’t know how lucky we were, until tonight that is. Now Lily is another matter. Lily is a little tiny dog and weighs about 6 pounds. Lily is 1 year old. Lily lives next door to us at the River. We are dog sitting for Lily. We started our job sitting at 4pm today. After several walks and dinner we brought Lily into our house to play with Joey. After about 20 minutes the playing and running around stopped and they both sat down and took a rest. Bob thought it was great seeing them play together. He was even more convinced that we should get another dog so that Joey would have a friend to play with all the time. Then Joey started barking incessantly. After a few minutes of the barking Jill went to see what he was barking at. “MOM, you better come here right now, we got a problem” Jill called out. I grabbed some paper towels figuring Lily did something on the floor. I was way off on this one. So way off. Joey was doing the Lassie bark, you know the one where he tells you there is a big problem and you need to come quick. Barking was his way telling us that Lily was being bad, really bad and he wanted no part of it. He was not taking the rap for this, in fact, it would never occur to him to do such a thing. Furthermore, he was saying that Lily was a bad influence and that perhaps now we would appreciate him just a little bit more since he had never done anything like this. In other words, maybe Bob should reconsider getting another dog, a little “friend” for him. He was saying that maybe he liked things just the way they were. Maybe he liked being an only dog, the only one getting petted, getting brushed and walked. And furthermore, he said we could end up with a dog that isn’t nearly as good as he is, a dog like Lily, and then his life would be ruined as he would just get thrown in with the bad dog and he himself might go bad. Did we ever think of that? Did any of these possibilites ever occur to us? Well, quite frankly none of these thoughts had ever entered my head until I walked into the living room. There it was, the reason Joey was barking, the reason Lily wasn’t barking and the reason Jill said we had a big problem. In all of five minutes Lily had eaten a big hole in the front of our sofa. The hole went right down to the wood frame. It happened so fast that if we hadn’t listened to Joey I think Lily would have had the rest of the sofa eaten in another 15 minutes. Maybe we didn’t give her enough food for dinner. I think Joey should get a reward. I think we should listen to Joey more. I think we should change Joey’s name to Lassie. And I think we should seriously reconsidered getting another dog. Are you listening Bob?
Are you looking Bob!
