Heifer International
Oh I know what you are thinking, another cow story. And you are absolutely correct. But wait there’s more. A whole lot more! So just keep reading.
I received this catalog in the mail and it said “The Most Important Gift Catalog in the World“. I just had to read it since it had a picture of a cow on it and they apparently agreed with me on how important catologs and cows were. I was in hog heaven (haha). First, I love farmy things, second I love catalogs. and for the icing on the cake, one of my most favorite things to do is to take a long hot bath and read gift catalogs. It was almost too much of a good thing. I put this catalogon the top of the pile, just above Neiman Marcus and Horchow. Well, after reading the Heifer catalog I couldn’t fathom looking through the other catalogs without feeling like a self indulgent dolt. I threw them away and went and bought a goat – yes goat – not coat. And I also bought some chicks and some bees.
The mission of Heifer International is to provide needy families aroundthe world with livestock as a stepping stone to self- sufficiency. They train the families and then provide them with heathly livestock. Throughout the year the animals provides wool or eggs or milk and then the family gives one or more of the offspring to another family in need as partners in the program. What a wonderful program andwhat a wonderful way to provide a holiday gift to a family in need. they have been around since 1944.
“Heifer’s strategy is…
To “pass on the gift.” As people share their animals’ offspring with others – along with their knowledge, resources, and skills – an expanding network of hope, dignity, and self-reliance is created that reaches around the globe.
Heifer’s History
This simple idea of giving families a source of food rather than short-term relief caught on and has continued for over 60 years. Today, millions of families have been given the gifts of self-reliance and hope.”
You can donate the livestock of your choice in the name of a friend and a gift card will be sent to your recipient. Or you can just give the donation for the livestock of your choice to yourself because it is a really good way to be a Faux Farmer. Now go out and buy a goat or pig or sheep or chickens. It may be the only time you can actually buy yourself some livestock without actually having to take care of it yourself. It is truly the Faux Farm dream gift catalog! and they were absolutely right, it is the most important gift catalog in the world.
Please consider taking a look at this catalog and donating anything you can to help another family in need to become a real farmer.
Thanks a bunch and check out the catalog. I would love to know what you bought so, send me a note.
