“Silence Your Whining” by Jill
Jill class assignment was to take the first line from a book “My father would always say” and then make that the first line in a poem. This is her poem.
I think she did a wonderful job. It is very sad and I wonder where these thoughts come from in her young head.
My Father would always say
“ Be Silent”.
Whenever I was screaming like a baby
“You’re whining”.
Father would yell when I did not get my way
He would tell me
“Silence, I don’t feel well”.
When I was playing with my dolls
He would poke his head in the door
While whispering
“It’s bed time”
When I was acting out my stories where I was the princess.
Then one day
I learned he was sick
With cancer, something incurable.
In his case
Nothing could make him better
No matter what I could say or do
I was then
Forever
Silent.
