Faux Farm Pot Pie
Now doesn’t that look like a delicious home baked chicken pot pie? Well, it is, sorta, kinda, maybe.
I look around at all the food channels, food shows, food blogs, food magazines, food sections and food web sites. Who the heck is doin all that cooking? Who the heck has the time to read the recipe, get the ingredients, put it all together and cook it, just for everyone to gobble it up in 5 minutes and run back to their homework, computer, phone or TV. I don’t get it. I mean, really, even if I were a real farm girl I would be way too busy tending the chickens, milking the cows and bringing in the hay to make some crazy 20 ingredient laden recipe from Bon Apetit. I would have better things to do. And even as a Faux Farm girl I have better things to do. Like, work, get a massage, write this blog, get my nails done, shop and visit the real farms and take pictures. I don’t see how I have time to cook at all! I used to cook but, after all that hard work I wanted compliments, dinner conversation and someone to help clean up. I got nothin! Maybe a “thanks mom” once in awhile. It was a disheartening and unrewarding task and so I quit doing it. This is not to say that they did not get healthy, tasty meals. They did. They just got them in a way that was easier for me. Then, when I was not complimented or they ate and ran, I simply no longer cared. I no longer invested all that time and energy. I just got the job done, simple, quick and easy and they are happy as clams. No more food recipe experiments, no more piles of pans and mixing bowls, or missing ingredients. No more, “how much longer till dinner is ready?” and my personal favorite “You don’t expect us to eat that do you?” Just good, plain, easy to make food. So welcome to my cooking class.
The first recipe is for Faux Farm Chicken Pot Pie. So, here is what you need to make this tasty pie.
You need an oven. Set it to 400 degrees and a timer set for 40 minutes. Can you do that? Good!
You need a cookie sheet and two oven mitts. They don’t have to match.
Now put some foil on the cookie sheet so you don’t have to clean up the cookie sheet if any of the tasty juices overflow from the pot pie. Always think ahead when it comes to cleaning up, chances are you won’t have any help.
Now, put the delicious pie that you bought at Costco’s for $16.83 onto the cookie sheet and place it into your oven on the middle shelf.
Wait 40 minutes until the dinger goes off. Turn off the timer and the oven. You are done with them for the day. Now, let the pie cool for about 5 minutes so the juices get a little cool. Give a yell to your family to come and eat your feast. they will love it. They will still leave you within 10 minutes, but so what. This was easier than makin a sandwich, which is what they would have had, and I might add, been perfectly happy with, had you not been there in the first place.
Feeds a family of 5-6 easily and it is filled with nutritious vegetables, white meat chicken and that ever lovin crust.
Recipes? We don’t need no stickin recipes at the Faux Farm. We just need a fork.
Oh wait ,let me remove my apron. See ya chickens.
