A Weekend Away.
This is how you get a tow up in the river. We don’t have a boat. We won’t ever have a boat. Not ever! This is because I see this photo as our future boating experience. We can hardly handle a jet ski. Yesterday, Bob and I took the jet ski out for the first time this year. I put on my wet suit and grabbed my camera and was ready to have some fun on the river. Before I even got the rope off the cleats Bob started the engine and started to move, without me and with the metal cleat attached to the rope and our dock. Engine off, rope off, Ann on, engine on -now you can go Bob. Always in that order Bob. We don’t go 100 yards and there is the loud beeping noise. Here is the dialogue: “Gee Bob what is that? Oh, Ann that is the low fuel warning. Gee Bob, is the gas dock open this early in the season. Well Ann, it wasn’t open yesterday so I don’t think so. Gee Bob, how far do you think we can go. Don’t worry Ann, we have 2 bars out of 5 – we can go pretty far. Gee bob, I hope so.” We fly by the Pavilion, we fly by Paula’s house and then there is another loud beeping noise. Dialogue similar to first but a little louder: “Gee Bob, what is that beeping? Ann, that is the low fuel warning as I have already told you but I think we should go back, we are down to one bar. Gee Bob, I thought you said we could go far. Well Ann, I was wrong. Gee Bob are we going to make it back to our dock? I don’t know Ann , maybe we should put it in Paula’s boat house. Gee bob, how will we get home because you know they have left and we will have to walk back and I am wearing this god awfully tight black wetsuit. Gee Bob, that will be fun, since I am already dying from lack of circulation and over heating just sitting here. Image walking in this thing. I don’t suggest I take it off cause I only have a bathing suit bottom on underneath it, no top! Gee bob, you just passed their dock, are you going to try to make it back to our dock? Yes Ann, I would rather risk drowning than have to listen to you complain about walking through town in your wetsuit. Gee Bob, what will you do if you run out of gas, just think of the good story that will bring down upon your head. Shut up Ann, I have to concentrate on getting back. Gee Bob, how does concentrating make more gas and you might not want to hug the shore to closely cause there are all the shoals up ahead. Shut up Ann, I see the shoals. Gee Bob, not only will you run out of gas but you will run aground and then you will have to get in the water and not only pull me and the jet ski back but all the pieces it will be in too! And then with the next beeping noise we pulled into our dock. I don’t know who was more relieved. Me or Bob. As we tied up the jet ski I told him that if we had run out of gas I would have helped bring the jet ski back. I would have laughed my ass off and told the story but I would have helped. One time my dad rented a boat and he ran out of gas with all four of his daughters in the boat. He had all of us get into the water and hold onto the back of the boat and kick the boat into shore. He called us the evinrude sisters. He steered the boat. He wasn’t much help. We come from a long line on non-boaters and then we marry them too! We have a kayak and a canoe and that is as far as our boat ownership will go.
My favorite view from our front yard looking out across the water to another island.
This is our little boat shed tucked back behind all the reeds.
This was the state of the dock on Memorial day and in just 2 weeks the reeds have all started to grow and look at it now.
And look! We have a visitor. This guy came back every day and sat on our dock.
He also dined at my dock.
I was really quiet and snuck up on him to get this photo. He actually looks a little mean doesn’t he?
And then he flew away! I am going to have to figure out how to take better action shots although this looks a little arty with the reflection in the water. Remember, it is a fine line between art and accident.!!
The boathouses are not yet full – just a few boats have been put in the water this early in the season.
The houses on The Green-most haven’t been opened for the season yet. By next weekend the place should be filling up with people.
The Pavillion just before the storm comes in.
This is the view of the little island in the fog from my sisters front yard.
Well, that’s it for the river weekend photos.
